Western Australia Police
Western Australia was chosen to be the host of the 2011 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). While media relating to the event was managed by the Australian Federal Government through a custom built media centre, the small WA Police Media Unit was responsible for media liaison relating to public order, security of Internationally Protected Persons, and traffic management plans to allow for the free movement of secure motorcades.
The small team of 6 media staff needed to expand to operate 24/7, resulting in an additional 25 staff being seconded to the unit. Six staff were sought from other police jurisdictions and thirteen staff were seconded from other Government agencies, with the remainder sourced from within the agency. Most of these staff were in a new environment and working across three shifts.
